Thai Man Faces 15 Year Sentence For Refusing to Stand for Royal Anthem

Many American conservatives would love to have such a law enacted here in the good old U S of A. How many years could you get for refusing to stand for the National Anthem at a sporting event? How many days in the hole for not wearing an American flag lapel pin? Death for suggesting that George Bush is an ignorant clod? The possibilities are endless!

A 27-year-old Thai man who refused to stand when the royal anthem was played in a movie theater has been charged with offending the dignity of Thailand’s king. The man insists there is nothing in the Thai constitution that requires him to stand. The crime is punishable by up to 15 years in prison. The case is an example of younger people in Thailand challenging the status quo.
